An InfinityQS Enact alert is not a nonconformance disposition

Advantive describes Enact as a cloud SPC platform that detects variation and out-of-control conditions, sends alerts when limits are exceeded, and can trigger corrective workflows. The signal may demand immediate action, but product disposition still needs identified material, evidence, authority, scope, and downstream control.

An SPC signal opens a quality question

Advantive's current Enact page describes real-time collection and analysis, control charts, trend and out-of-control detection, alerts when limits are exceeded, and automatic triggers for corrective workflows or investigations. That sequence is operationally useful because it can shorten the time between an observed condition and accountable attention. The alert still does not establish what material is affected, whether the measurement is valid, or what disposition is authorized.

An out-of-control signal concerns process behavior under a defined method. A nonconformance concerns failure to meet a specified requirement. The two can occur together, separately, or in an uncertain sequence. A process can be statistically stable yet produce nonconforming output, and a signal can arise while measured product remains within specification. The system should retain both questions instead of translating every rule breach into rejected product.

Preserve the data and rule behind the alert

The signal record should retain the process and characteristic, product and operation, machine, tool or cavity where relevant, lot or serial scope, measurement value and units, instrument and calibration or verification state, sampling plan, collection method, timestamp, operator or device, control-chart type, center line, limits and their derivation, rule set and version, subgroup logic, exclusions, corrections, and the exact condition that triggered.

Changes to limits, rational subgroups, measurement methods, product mix, specifications, tooling, materials, or data filters can change interpretation. A revised configuration should become effective through controlled history. Recalculating prior observations may be useful, but the original alert must remain reproducible from the rule and data state that existed when operators acted. Missing or suspect data should create an explicit validity review, not a convenient cleared state.

Route containment and disposition through accountable records

The response should distinguish acknowledgment, immediate process adjustment, containment, measurement verification, affected-scope determination, nonconformance creation, investigation, material review, concession or deviation, rework, scrap, release, corrective action, and effectiveness review. Each state needs an owner, time, evidence, rationale, approval authority, product or lot scope, downstream system action, and conditions or follow-up.

A production adjustment can restore expected behavior without deciding the status of material made before or during the signal. Conversely, disposition may proceed while the process investigation remains open. The system should show which lots were held, sampled, inspected, segregated, released, or rejected; who decided; what requirement applied; and how ERP, MES, warehouse, supplier, and customer records received the controlled result.

Test an alert with valid product and a later defect

A representative evaluation should trigger an out-of-control rule while measurements remain within specification, verify the measurement system, contain a defined production interval, document a process adjustment, disposition the affected lot, and later receive a nonconforming result from a related operation. Reviewers should reproduce the original signal, show why the first disposition was authorized, connect the later evidence, reassess affected scope, and preserve every superseded or continuing decision.

Advantive's official page supports the described SPC, real-time collection, chart, alert, workflow-trigger, dashboard, and reporting positioning, but no customer process, characteristic, sample, instrument, control limit, specification, signal, nonconformance, disposition, configuration, implementation, or outcome was independently tested here. Manufacturers and their quality, engineering, operations, metrology, supplier, regulatory, and legal owners retain their decisions.

Enterprise buyer test

Translate this change into the exact population, record type, workflow stage, decision owner, effective date, and evidence that could be affected. Ask current or prospective providers to demonstrate the named workflow with representative data and an exception—not a polished feature tour. Record what official documentation establishes, what a provider states, what the team observes, and what remains unresolved.

A defensible review also identifies the dependency outside the product. Authority interpretation, policy configuration, data quality, integrations, human judgment, approval rights, release governance, training, and retained evidence may remain customer or service responsibilities. The evaluation should preserve those boundaries instead of treating a technology claim as the complete operating model.
