IAQG 9100 mapping does not establish aerospace certification

IAQG describes 9100:2016 as a quality-management-system standard for aviation, space, and defense supply chains with requirements beyond ISO 9001. A software crosswalk does not establish certification or customer acceptance.

The standard operates across a supply chain

IAQG says 9100 was developed primarily for aviation, space, and defense and can be used at all levels of the supply chain. The official page also describes additional requirements over an ISO 9001 system, which makes a generic QMS label an incomplete description of the buyer's operating context.

A useful system record needs the organization, site, program, customer, product, process, supplier, configuration, contract, and applicable sector edition. Those facts determine which workflow and evidence questions matter; a standards tag attached to a software module does not.

The 2016 identity anchors the mapping

The IAQG page labels its current support resources around the 9100:2016 series. It links clarifications, FAQs, gap-assessment and evaluation material, correlation matrices, and regulatory-reference guides as separate artifacts rather than presenting one undifferentiated compliance package.

Quality teams should preserve the exact regional publication, revision, and adopted customer or contractual context. A crosswalk that omits edition identity can make historical findings, procedures, training, and evidence look current when they were created for a different baseline.

Mapping supports review but does not certify

A provider can map documents, training, supplier controls, configuration changes, nonconformances, audits, and corrective actions to a requirements model. That may improve navigation and evidence requests, but it remains provider-documented functionality until tested in the purchased package and buyer configuration.

Certification is an organization- and scope-specific evidence state produced through the applicable scheme and authorized bodies. Product conformity, first-article acceptance, program approval, and customer acceptance are different decisions with their own records and accountable actors.

The buyer test follows one production record

A defensible demonstration should follow one representative product and process through configuration, supplier evidence, planning, inspection, nonconformance, change, approval, and retained history. The test should expose the exact revision, site, program, customer requirement, responsibility, exception, and decision at every handoff.

The public IAQG page supports the standard identity and resource structure used here. The licensed requirements, certification rules, contracts, customer-specific requirements, and the buyer's own controlled procedures remain necessary evidence for an actual aerospace quality determination.

Enterprise buyer test

Translate this change into the exact population, record type, workflow stage, decision owner, effective date, and evidence that could be affected. Ask current or prospective providers to demonstrate the named workflow with representative data and an exception—not a polished feature tour. Record what official documentation establishes, what a provider states, what the team observes, and what remains unresolved.

A defensible review also identifies the dependency outside the product. Authority interpretation, policy configuration, data quality, integrations, human judgment, approval rights, release governance, training, and retained evidence may remain customer or service responsibilities. The evaluation should preserve those boundaries instead of treating a technology claim as the complete operating model.
